Accounting Jobs and Careers
Accounting Job Options
While Everest training prepares students to pursue entry-level positions, various fields are available to explore for candidates who possess a balance of adequate skills, experience and training.
Students are encouraged to explore accounting careers in the following areas:
Audit
Professionals in the auditing field work with accounting ledgers and financial statements. The field has become increasingly computerized and often relies on sophisticated random sampling methods. Auditing is considered to be the bread and butter of accounting. Auditing may involve extensive travel. It’s a great way for industry employees to learn, from the inside, how money is being made in the companies being analyzed.
Budget Analysis
It is the responsibility of budget analysts to develop and manage an organization’s financial plans. Many of these jobs are found in the government and private industry. Excellent people skills are required due to extensive negotiations that quite often take place.
Financial
Accountants who take this career path must prepare financial statements based on general ledgers. Financial accountants are tasked to make important financial decisions involving mergers, acquisitions and long-term financial projections. The work varies, and may consist of creating new accounts and servicing existing customers.
Tax
Tax accountants are charged with preparing corporate and personal income tax statements. Industry professionals should have a thorough understanding of economics and how tax codes apply.
Government
The Government employs a large number of accountants who work at the local, state and federal level. Government accounting can have a huge impact on the overall public good, but can also be subject to bureaucratic obstructions on occasion.
Accounting and auditing positions, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, are expected to experience faster than average growth over the next 10 years. Job prospects should be the brightest for professionals with the right education credentials and certifications.
Several accounting entry-level career opportunities include:
- Accounting Assistant
- Accounting Clerk
- Bookkeeper
- Management Trainee
- And more
Of course work or employment in any occupation is largely dependent upon a person’s own work ethic, experience and local market conditions. Nothing is guaranteed in life. At Everest, however, we feel that a lot of good things can happen when the right education meets the right opportunity.
